opera house

A protected interior, an orchestra that disappears into the pit, and singers who cannot hear what they are singing against

AMADEUS ACOUSTICS | OPERA HOUSE

THE STRUGGLE

  • The pit absorbs the orchestra before it reaches the stalls, so the balance the conductor hears is not the balance the audience hears

  • The building is listed. Reflectors, canopies and structural changes are either refused outright or take years of consent.

  • Singers on stage get little usable return from the pit, and compensate by pushing, which costs them across a long run.

how we solve it

  • Active acoustics rebalances pit and stage electronically, lifting the orchestra into the house without amplifying it into a PA sound.

  • Voice lift supports spoken passages and recitative without putting a visible microphone anywhere near a performer

  • A virtual orchestra shell gives the pit the reflections a built shell would provide, in a house where no shell can be installed.

what the venue achieves

  • Stage-to-pit communication that works from the first rehearsal rather than the third.

  • Repertoire that the room previously could not carry becomes programmable.

  • Heritage status untouched, because nothing is built, moved or removed.

MOZART’S REQUIEM - HALLE E

When stage director Romeo Castellucci and Ensemble Pygmalion’s musical director Raphaël Pichon premiered their interpretation of Mozart’s requiem at Festival d’Aix-en-Provence in 2019, the work was instantly praised as a modern masterpiece.

Amadeus ART integrates seamlessly with the AV infrastructure a venue already runs, and stays brand agnostic: it works with quality loudspeakers, microphones, amplifiers and mixing desks from every major manufacturer, and talks to the control and show systems already in the rack.

“Normally, we can only adapt ourselves in a performance situation: the piano and the space are given parameters. With Amadeus, the space becomes alive and offers a myriad of artistic opportunities for different styles”
