EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

What is Active Acoustics - Webinar

Are you interested in learning more about active acoustics and how to use them effectively to enhance a venue’s acoustics? The Amadeus Team held the What Is Active Acoustics Webinar on April 20th, 5pm (CET), and you can now watch the recording! Learn about the geometric approach to active acoustics, quality criteria, and how to adapt to your clients needs on this free webinar, hosted by our director Fabio Kaiser.

Consultant Seminar - Spring

Our first Acoustics Consultant Seminar of 2023 was held at our Viennese headquarters on May 22nd, 1pm - 8pm (CET). The seminar covered the principles of active acoustics, interactive discussions on how to design an active acoustics system, and an Amadeus Active Acoustics demonstration, among other topics! And, if that was not enough, participants got the chance to do a private tour at Vienna’s prestigious Musikverein. Does this sound like a treat? Contact us for info on the next seminar!

FROM THE DEPTHS TO THE HEIGHTS - THE NEW CONCERT HALL IN ANDERMATT, BTR 4/2019

“The early hall response is generated by the reflections from the hall's wooden surfaces, as we are convinced that natural reflections through wooden surfaces always sound better than reflections artificially created with speakers. Only the “late” hall response from the audience area is supported and expanded with the “Amadeus Active Acoustics” reverberation system from the Austrian office Rohde Acoustics. Amadeus is a regenerative acoustic system and adds additional acoustic energy for the desired event type, extending and delaying the reverberation. The signals are recorded above the stage and in the hall by 25 microphones. These signals are emitted via 75 loudspeakers that are discreetly integrated into the ceiling and walls. Without the system, the reverberation would otherwise be a little too short, as the volume of the room would remain too small for a symphony orchestra. Technically, some of the ceiling surfaces are acoustically transparent, which also enabled the ventilation to be integrated in an invisible manner. The loudspeakers are then used to simulate both a reflection on the visible surface and a reflection on the actual outside surface: acoustically, the area above and behind the balcony is enlarged, in a way that is still perceptually acceptable and understandable - the hall is “acoustically present “And the majority of the surfaces manifest themselves visually and acoustically.”

An investment in the future

“The project's schedule was tight: a few weeks directly before Christmas were available for dismantling and disposing of the previous system, installing the new system, testing all components and lines and calibrating the system. Operations continued at full capacity with almost daily renovations, rehearsals and events.

“The collaboration with everyone involved was extremely pleasant and professional,” says Thomas Lunacek, managing director of the installing company Elektroakustik Neuenhagen GmbH. This meant that the system could be handed over in time for the New Year's Eve concert with the Prague Festival Symphony Orchestra under Petr Šumnik and the soloists Akiko Yamaguchi (soprano) and Xu Chang (tenor). “We believe that with the new enhancement system in the Great Hall, a high-quality performance of orchestral music in the CCS will be possible for the next few years, if not decades, comparable to the acoustic quality of well-known concert halls,” says Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ahnert emphasizes the flexibility: “At the touch of a button, various settings are possible that ensure acoustic conditions not only for symphonic concerts, but also for chamber and jazz concerts and also for rock and pop events. The system can be switched off for language events.”

The initial experiences and feedback confirm the assessment: “CCS GmbH is very satisfied with the result of installing this reverberation extension system,” says Diana Schneider, managing director of the Congress Center Suhl. “This is also proven by the large number of feedback from our concert visitors, who speak of a special sound experience and a perfect enjoyment of music.” And the organizer and owner of the MKGD – Central German Concert & Guest Performance Directorate, Bodo Dresen, adds: “The installation of the Amadeus acoustic system is for "It's a wonderful gift for the audience in the region and for the artists performing here in Suhl." When used as a concert hall, the Great Hall now offers visitors room acoustics that are unique in Thuringia. “Our top orchestras from Leipzig, Prague and Jena that perform here praise the new acoustics; the musicians feel very comfortable in terms of sound and playing technique.”

PROFESSIONAL SYSTEM - MAGAZINE FOR AV SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Case Study: Optimized concert hall acoustics in the Congress Center Suhl

Thanks to a regenerative acoustic system in the Great Hall of the Congress Center Suhl, the sound of the hall can be adjusted for the type of event planned at the touch of a button.

In time for the 2018 New Year's Eve concert, the new Amadeus Active Acoustics System to optimize the concert hall acoustics was put into operation in the Great Hall of the Congress Centrum Suhl (CCS). The listening experience for the up to 2,352 spectators was to be improved - the natural reverberation times in the Great Hall, which are caused by the room acoustics among other things, are very short and had to be significantly extended for concert performances. In particular, the sound envelope during a concert and the perceived loudness should be increased. For this purpose, an Amadeus regenerative concert hall acoustic system was used.
